Crocheting – 20% Project, Week 3

This week was amazing, I had so many accomplishments. One accomplishment I had was sewing the two parts together. Watching the video it looked so hard but it ended up being not so bad. At first I thought one part of my stingray was a little small but it actually turned out okay. Everything went super smoothly and what I thought would be hard turned out to be easy. The only adjustment I made was starting over during the middle of the week cause my stingray looked weird. This week there were no struggles except for the fact that I poked myself with something, that has to do with crocheting, that is very sharp after my work time. During the week, I got embroidery floss, stuffing, eyes, and crocheting sewing needles. Starting up next week I am finally going to finish my stingray. This helps me a lot, by giving me two weeks to work on my trifold and a time-lapse video I want to put together. Be sure to read my next blog next week. Thank you for reading.

Rad Reading – April

This month I read the book Scat by Carl Hiaasen. Scat is about a boy named Nick and his super strict biology teacher named Mrs. Starch. Ever since the field trip, Mrs. Starch is nowhere to be seen. After their encounter with their wacky substitute teacher, Nick and Marta want Mrs. Starch back, along with the truth of what actually happened during the field trip. Will Nick and Marta dig out the truth and save Mrs. Starch or will they be lost like their teacher.

If I were to rate this book, I would rate it a five. This book was amazing and certainly gives competition to the book Hoot, another amazing book written by Carl Hiaasen. I would totally recommend this book to people who liked Hoot or Flush because this book might be just as good!

My favorite character in this book is Nick. In this book Nick is brave and kind. According to the text Nick’s best friend Marta says, “You’re gonna fall and kill yourself!” This proves that Nick is amazingly brave by climbing a giant tree with the mother panther staring straight into his eyes also while holding her kitten. If I were given the opportunity to do something like this I would pass without hesitation.

My favorite quote can be found on page #357-358, “‘Apparently Mr. McBride had called up begging for money. His dad got so ticked off that he phoned the police and gave them the address of the hotel. The room number, too.’” I liked this quote because Drake McBride deserved to be arrested after what he did. First of all Drake McBride has always depended on his father for money, he does nothing and lives a luxurious life. For example, when they found Drake McBride, he was found with a goatee and a fake name in a fancy hotel. Thats why I liked this quote.

A Good Neighbour

It is important to be a good neighbour. In my opinion a good neighbour is kind and helpful. Being a good neighbour not only benefits your neighbors but also yourself. If you show kindness to your neighbours they are bound to show kindness back to you. Here are some ways you can be a good neighbour. First of all, a good neighbour must show kindness. The easiest way to spread kindness can be through a nice conversations. Getting to know the people around your neighborhood not only lets you get to know them but also gives them a chance to know more about you. Another example of being a good neighbour is if you share something you baked with them. If I have two pumpkin bread loafs, I would give them one. Finally, if a neighbour of yours needs something, like an egg, you help them by giving or letting them borrow the thing you need. This is how you become a good neighbour.

Crocheting – 20%, Week 2

This week did not go as planned. This week I started to make an animal because of my super smooth first week. Before I came to class today I thought I had everything worked out and ready, because during the week I had watched videos on how to crochet with different stitches. Turns out the crocheting video I used lied, it said it was easy. One struggle I face this week was the frustrating increase stitch. The increase stitch consists of two single crochet stitches combined in one hole. Another struggle I am facing is my stingray doesn’t look like the video. I put in an entire hour this week to create part of the stingray and might have to start over. However, throughout all these struggles stood an accomplishment, I was able to create a good looking second half of the stingray at home after failing make the first half. On Monday through Thursday, I plan on starting over my first half of the stingray because it didn’t go so well during class. I will also buy stuffing, a crocheting needle, and embroidering floss for crocheting for a total of about twenty dollars or less. Next week I plan on continuing my work on the stingray. My new estimated date to finish this stingray is probably the week after next week. Thanks for reading, I’ll see you next week.

Cold or Hot

If I were to choose between living in hot or cold environment, I would choose to live in the cold. An example of cold would be about sixty degrees Fahrenheit and an example of hot would be about one hundred degrees Fahrenheit. I chose to be in a cold environment because for me the cold not only feels better than the hot but is also easier to warm up in the cold than cool off in the hot. In the cold you can turn on the heater and wrap yourself in a blanket while in the heat, even with an air conditioner on, it is hard to cool off. Another reason why I chose the cold is because you can play sports for hours in the cold while when it’s hot you can only play for a few minutes. This is why I chose the cold. What do you choose?

Crocheting – 20% Project, Week 1

This week was amazing and I was able to complete my goal for the week and the goal for next week. The goal for this week was to learn how to tie a knot and make a chain. I smoothly glided through that process and was able to learn how to go up. It turns out that my goal of crocheting in different directions is the same thing as crocheting up so this gives me an extra week to make an animal. This week I faced no ultimate struggles but it turned out that crocheting up is a little tricky and takes a little longer. One adjustment I would make is the tension when I crochet. This week I crocheted a little too tight making it harder to go up to the next layer. From Monday to Wednesday, my goal is to pick an animal to crochet. This will help me because on Friday I will start crocheting an animal and I will need a certain color yarn to crochet with. This is what I am up to so far.

Smells Good!

There are so many people I would want to invite to dinner, but these are my top three: Gordon Ramsay, Stephen Curry, and Elon Musk. I chose these three for a specific reason. For dinner we will be eating filet mignon and who is better at cooking than Gordon Ramsay. For those who don’t know Gordon Ramsay, he is an amazing chef but is most famous for his TV life. I know this dinner may cost a lot of money so that’s why I brought along Stephen Curry. Stephen Curry may be a basketball player but he’s also a money maker. Jersey’s signed by Stephen Curry must cost a fortune. That’s why I would have him sign fifteen jersey’s to pay for the expensive dinner. The reason why I invited Elon Musk to my dinner is to get a job there. There is no way he will say no to me with Gordon Ramsay and Stephen Curry at the table. Those are the reasons I chose these people.

Rad Reading – March (Kai)

In March, I read the book Squirm by Carl Hiaasen. This book is a realistic fiction book about a teenage boy named Billy who is new to school. Billy never tries to make friends because he always ends up moving. Just like how his mysterious dad moved out when Billy was little. However, after all these years Billy finally has a chance to meet him. After meeting his dad’s new family he has many questions about him and doesn’t know what to think of the man. What do you think of Billy’s dad. Read to reveal what Billy’s dad is like.

If I were to give this book a rating, I would give it a four. Squirm is a great book to read if you liked Hoot or Chomp (Also written by carl Hiaasen). The reason I only gave Squirm a four is because it wasn’t a book I couldn’t put down. In other words, it wasn’t as amazing as Hoot or Chomp but still pretty good.

My favorite character in this book is Billy. This is because of Billy’s forgiving and understanding nature. I can’t think of anyone who would just forgive someone who walked out their life when they were little in only a few days after reuniting with them. Carl Hiaasen writes, “I should probably be angrier than I feel, but I admit there’s a huge sense of relief to be done with the first face-to-face moment, as crazy as it was.” (Page #106-107) This icee of evidence proves the fact that Billy is forgiving and doesn’t want to stay mad at his dad.

My favorite quote is, “‘Yeah,’ I said. ‘Scary crazy.’” (Page #264) At first glance this may not look like a funny quote but the quote before this is “‘But let me tell you, there’s some crazy-ass people out there.’” (Page #264) In the book Billy stops the bad guy from escaping by putting a rattle snake in the helicopter. This is significant because the officer doesn’t know who did it but Billy does.

If Dreams Came True

A miniature golf assistant is the perfect job for me. The course I work on will be on the boardwalk in Ocean City. The biggest factor that made this job my dream job is that on downtime I can actually play myself. I am one out of many who love to play miniature golf, playing it everyday is a dream come true. This leads me to the second factor. I can challenge my friends and beat them every time. I will know every twist and turn and which hole ends up where. I will also love the shock on my friend’s when I end getting many holes in ones. My final reason I chose this job is because of the environment. On the Ocean City Boardwalk there are many things that would catch your eye. For example, you can find Fisher’s Popcorn on the boardwalk or that amazing taffy place next door to it. It’s like living on the boardwalk.

Rad Reading – February (Kai)

In February, I read the book Taken by Erin Bowman. In the book Taken, the main character named Gray lives in a town called Claysoot. Circling Claysoot is a wall, many have climbed and came back dead. Since then no one dared to climb the wall as it was suicide. In Claysoot there are no men. The source behind this is the heist. Every time a boy hits their eighteenth birthday they disappear. Some people have accepted the heist but others have tested it. Gray mother was one of whom decided to test the heist. After Gray’s ‘older brother’, Blaine is taken by the Heist, Gray finds the truth. One that his family was hiding from him to help save other boys. Will Gray go out for answers or will he wait for the heist to take him.

I highly recommend this book to everyone. If I could give this book a rating it would be an easy five stars. This book has many twists and turns, in a way it is like Avatar. In this book you will want and crave answers.

My favorite character in this book is Blaine. In this book, Blaine shows kindness instead of hate and chooses to think before he says something. I don’t know how the main character, Gray, would live without Blaine being their for him and cooling his flame when Gray gets in fights.on page #10 Blaine says, “‘I don’t give a crap if whether she cares about me or not. I’d rather know why my kid brother is beating up a girl half his size. You okay?’ he asks.” This is one of many examples of Gray needing Blaine in his life.

My favorite quote is on page #326, “‘Oh, quit your whining,’ Bo says. ‘She shot you with a rubber bullet and it was necessary.’” I like this quote because the main character, Gray, made it sound so dramatic. He thought his arm was on fire and didn’t get up until someone came to help him up. It must have been embarrassing.
