Rad Reading – October (by Kai)

In October, I read the book Gone by Micheal Grant. Gone is a very interesting book about a fourteen year old named Sam and his rival, a fourteen year old named Caine who fight each other for power. Little did they know that they are brothers, born 1 minute a part. Everyday things are changing, bullies are rising, mutants are forming, and worst of all people who are 15 or older are disappearing. With time running out, will Sam save himself and others, without adults, before turning fifteen.

I really enjoyed this book because there are a lot of setting shifts letting the reader understand what’s happening in more than one characters perspectives. Not only that but I also enjoy the secret power people have, it reminds me of the Harry Potter series.

Edilio is my favorite character because he is always willing to lend a hand even though he doesn’t have powers like Sam. Unlike Sam, Edillio isn’t the main character or is popular in the book. Edillio is Sam’s right-hand man, when ever Sam needs help Edillio is there. The text states, “Edillio whipped the ropes off the cleats and jumped in. ‘I got to warn you, man: I get seasick.’” Even though Edillio gets seasick, he stays loyal and strong to push through. Overall Edillio is an amazing friend who is loyal and friendly.

My favorite quote from the book is from Edillio, “‘I got to warn, man: I get seasick.’” This is my favorite quote because after saying this Edillio drives the boat. After years of finding an example of irony, I have finally found one.

It’s From Deep, It’s a Goal

If I could trade places with a famous person for the day it would be Lionel Messi. Lionel Messi is a star soccer player who plays on Inter Miami C.F. There are so many reasons I would trade places. First of all, I can play soccer as Messi and meet other famous players who will be grateful that I talk to them because I am more famous. Second of all, I will be rich and will do things I’ve never done before. My final reason I would be Messi is to travel and eat things all over the world. These are the three reasons I would love to be Messi.

Good Morning Universe

If I could have the perfect day it would be all about sports and friends. I would wake up to my soccer game on seventy-two degree Saturday with time to get a mouth watering breakfast burrito and a warm raspberry scone lined with white chocolate at Tru Brew with my dad. After this amazing breakfast I will go on to my championship soccer game scoring 3 goals with my left and right foot. After the soccer game I will go out and get some poke with my friends. For my poke bowl I will have tuna, octopus, salmon, seaweed, small orange fish eggs, and some sesame seeds on top along with some seaweed flakes. After this me and my friends will go out to a golf course to hit some golf balls. After golfing, me and my friends will go to the store at the golf course and order loaded french fries. After this I will buy a movie theater and me and my friends will go to the movie theater and watch Top Gun. After the movie my friends will sleepover at my house.

Forever Young

A fun age to be forever would be twenty-one. Twenty-one is an amazing age because you aren’t to young but also not to old. For example, I will still be young enough to be almost as athletic as a teen but also old enough to drive, get a job and vote. For a job I will be an environmental engineer and will make enough money to buy a house and other things like a secret movie theater behind a book shelf. I will also be able to try wine so whenever my parents go wine tasting I won’t have to sit outside for what feels like hours. At twenty one nearly anything is possible.

Shootout

One of my most adrenaline rushing moments in life was when I was 12. It is going into the fourth quarter. Not what anyone would expect. The number one Team is tied with my team, the number five team, in the semifinals. The ball is running down the sideline, the crowed roars, players move lightning quick and are as fast as cheetahs. This is what it was like during the fourth quarter, everyone was on their toes. The opposing team strikes. The ball is stollen! Here comes the break away! He shoots! He shoots he scores! We are on top of the number one team one to zero. We are now two minutes away from winning, on so I thought. With little time the opposing team makes their moves, they obviously aren’t counting themselves out. Passing the ball up field our defense is unorganized and is easily passed by the opposing team. They shoot! They score! Not long after that we go into penalty kicks. I am the first kicker to shoot. I miss. I shot the ball directly at the keeper. They shoot! They also miss. It is our turn again. We shoot. We score. Now it is their turn. They miss! We score for a second time and they miss for the third time. If we make this next shot it is game over and we will win. We shoot, we score! Game over, we are going to the finals!

Rad Reading – September (by Kai)

For my September book I am reading The Maze Runner by JAMES DASHNER. Maze runner is a science fiction book about a 16 tear old named Thomas and how he tries to escape the glade through the maze. However there are twists, the walls of the maze move, there are vicious half machine animal things called “grievers” that come out at night and most importantly no one in the glade can remember a thing, beside their name, from the outside world.

I really love this book because the author always keeps you guessing by keeping important pieces of information secret until the very end. You never fully know what’s happening and once you get a bit of information you will be craving for some more.

My favorite character is Thomas because he is always making bold decisions and puts his life after others even if it means he might die. According to the text, “Thomas knew he had no choice. He moved. Forward. He squeezed past the connecting rods at the last second and stepped into the maze. The walls behind slammed shut behind him, the echo of its boom bouncing of the ivy-covered stone like mad laughter.” At the beginning of the story Thomas was impatient and utterly clueless but as he spent more time in the Glade he got used to it and learned how everything worked. Thomas definitely matured and earned himself a spot as a “Glader”.

My favorite quote from the book is on page 113, “‘Greenie,’ Minho said, ‘if you think that was brave comin’ out here, listen up. You’re the shuckiest shuck-faced shuck there ever was. You’re as good as dead, just like us.’” I like this quote because Thomas just risked his life Minho and this is what he got for a response, also this line is one of many that proves Minho to be a stubborn character.

Rad Reading – September (by Kai)

For my September book I am also reading The Scorch Trials by James Dashner. The scorch trials is a sequel to Maze runner and is part of a three book trilogy. In the story the main character named Thomas and his friends have to find the safe haven where WICKED will give him a cure for the flare. However the night before Thomas begins his journey his best friend named Teresa is kidnapped. With a lack of food hand water will Thomas and his group of friends find Teresa and make it to the safe haven?

I really like this story because just like Maze Runner the author hides important information from both Thomas and the reader. Events happen but you don’t know who’s behind it until the very end of the story making it easy to blame people who didn’t cause anything.

My favorite character is Thomas because he never stops proving the fact that he is willing to sacrifice himself for others. According to the text, “Thomas was glad he couldn’t hear the wails of agony that appeared to be from Minho. He knew they didn’t have time to stop, so Thomas grabbed their leader by the shoulders and dragged him to his feet.” Even in the middle of a long lightning storm Thomas risks his life to save his friend named Minho. The two best character traits to describe Thomas are brave and hopeful. These two character traits are proved easily throughout not only this book but also in the Maze Runner.

My favorite quote from this book is on page 191, “‘Hello noses!’ a hideous voice yelled from the room.” I like this quote because it is funny and it isn’t something you would normally say in life. This is probably the most awkward part of the trilogy.
